Transportation
Getting to and from behavioral health appointments, PHP/IOP, and psychiatric care
AHCCCS Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)
How it works: NEMT is a covered benefit for eligible AHCCCS members who cannot provide, secure, or pay for their own transportation to a covered service. It covers behavioral health appointments, PHP/IOP attendance, psychiatric care, doctor visits, and pharmacy trips. Rides are at no cost to the member.
How to request: Call your health plan's member services line at least 72 hours before your appointment. Have your AHCCCS ID number, appointment date and time, facility address, provider name, and any accessibility needs ready. Same-day requests may not be accommodated for non-urgent trips.
Public transit option: Members may request a bus or light rail pass instead of a scheduled ride. Ask your health plan's member services representative for a public transportation pass — it will be mailed to you, so request it well in advance.
Note: Some AHCCCS health plans actively coordinate NEMT as part of behavioral health adherence programs. Others ask members to first seek rides from family, friends, or neighbors before requesting a ride. Check with your specific health plan for how they handle NEMT requests.
